Obituary for Delia Nell Sayes

Delia N. Sayes, 94, of Bourbonnais passed away on November 1, 2018 in Pasadena, Texas . She was born July 14, 1924 in Post, Texas, the daughter of Noble E. and Ermina Hood Melton. Delia married James Ottis Sayes in 1944. He preceded her in death in 2003.

Delia was a Teacher at Alan Shepard School and Shabonna School for 35 years. She retired from Shabonna in 1990. She was a member of College Church of the Nazarene, Prime Time, Tuesday Book Review, Birthday Club and Impromtu Club. She enjoyed reading, shopping, crafts and handwork, and entertaining.

She is survived by one son James (Judi) Melton Sayes of Little Rock, AR; one daughter Deena (Rev. Jerry) Thomas of Deer Park, TX; three grandchildren Jay Sayes, Josh Sayes and Kristin Wheeler; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jayden, and Annalyce and Ella Sayes, and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers Newell and Bill.

Visitation will tentatively be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 6-8pm at Schreffler Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10am at College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais. Burial will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
