Obituary for Penny Eileen Wiggins (Rodgers)

Penny Eileen Rodgers Wiggins was born on September 16, 1942 in Houston, Texas and graduated to her eternal reward on April 13, 2023 at eighty years of age.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Donald Wiggins, her parents, William Butler Rodgers and Thelma Lorraine Rodgers, infant sister, Sharon Rodgers and great-grandson, Elijah Joseph Wyche.

She is survived by one sister, Peggy Willis and two daughters, Candy (Stephen) Hente and Lorrie (David) Stockman and a dear stepdaughter, Wyona Wyche. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, Olin Meadows, Christopher Wyche, Trevor Stockman, Ale Wyche, Bethany Zarcone, Quinton Wyche, Dwight Stockman, Mallory Zarcone, Christy Zarcone and Caleb Stockman and 2 great-grandchildren.
Penny graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School where she was an active member of the swim team. She was a finalist in the Miss Houston pageant and a stewardess for Trans Texas Airways. She met her future husband, Don, when she was only 13 years old. He was a grocery store clerk and she made frequent trips to buy groceries.

She spent most of her professional life working in the business offices of various physicians. She retired in 2004 as the executive secretary to the director of the Houston Housing Authority, where she worked for 15 years.

If there was one thing she would want to be remembered for, it was that she loved God and loved her family. When you were hers, she loved you fully, loyally, deeply and unconditionally whether you were her family, friends or a sports team. She was an avid sports fan, but only supported Houston teams, regardless of how good or bad the team was, because they were her team. One thing her family never doubted was her love for them. She loved giving gifts and seeing the joy it would bring to those she loved. She never ended a phone call without telling you she loved you.

In 1971 she encountered the presence of God and it changed her life forever. Together with her husband, they endeavored to honor God in many ways, faithfully attending and serving in church, participating in Bible study groups and eventually starting a church in Kerrville, Texas.

She was blessed with many loyal friendships that spanned more than 50 years including her dear friends, Ruth Hogan Welborn, Bryan & Margaret Morrison, Ron & Judy McKee and Cecil & Sharon Holliman. She loved chatting with those she loved, playing games and croqueting. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
