Jerald Douglas Erne was born February 23, 1944 to Florene George “Tuffy” Erne and Bobbie Jean (Storey) Erne in Corpus Christi, Texas. His family moved to the La Porte area when Jerry was 16 and he attended La Porte High School. As he grew into a young adult he was drafted into the Army and served during the Vietnam war earning a Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense service medal. After getting out of the army, married life and children, he and Mary Dio settled down together. Since 1991 they have called La Porte their home. Jerry worked for over 35 years as an industrial electrician in many locations across Houston.
He and Mary have cherished their time together, enjoying the Cowboys, watching children (and grass) grow. In his leisure time “Mountain” loved to fish, and he always had a great story or joke to tell. He passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 surrounded by the family he loved after a battle with cancer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tuffy and Bobbie Erne and brothers, Michael and Kenny.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Mary and his children, Tara Erne, Mary Erne Webster, Albert “Ski” Dio and wife Christi, Kerensa Floyd and husband Sam and Doug Dio. His surviving siblings are Cathy Owens, Lori Erne and Larry Erne. Jerry will also be missed by 11 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Tuesday, October 28 at 2PM in the Chapel of Stepping Stone Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior. He will be laid to rest in La Porte Cemetery with military honors.
